I grew up in rural Michigan and have not lost my love of quiet, privacy, and solitude, although these can be difficult to come by now that I am living the urban life. I take my digital camera with me often when I go out walking and sometimes use photos as reference material for paintings. I also use images from Google Street View and still life setups. Plein air painting is new to me (in 2016), but I enjoy it. I work with acrylics, oils, watercolor, and mixed media.
I move back and forth between writing and visual art. I have an MFA in poetry, while my visual art training as been through practice, reading, and taking classes now and again. I am an associate editor of poetry for Inlandia: a Literary Journey (a regional online journal for the Inland Empire in Southern California).
Many artists have generously shared their knowledge, their work, and their process with me. I am hugely grateful to everyone who has helped me over the years to learn and grow as an artist.
